Therapeutic Treatment

Before treatment begins, a full history is taken which includes any previous veterinary issues, any ridden or behavioural problems you have noticed and any other information that may be relevant.

The therapeutic treatment sessions involve a full assessment of the soft tissues and joint mobility of your horse’s body. I then treat the entire musculoskeletal system of your horse whilst tailoring the treatment and techniques I use to best help your horse. The skill sets I apply include Swedish massage, deep tissue sports massage, myofascial release, trigger point release, The Masterson Method and muscle energy techniques as well as a full range of active and passive stretches. Heat and proprioceptive therapy is offered as an integral part of the treatments when required.

At the end of the treatment I will offer comprehensive follow-up advice to include, where appropriate, targeted active and/or passive stretches, groundwork and ridden exercises as well as recommendations for further treatment if required.

The treatments are very in depth so expect them to last between an hour and a half and two hours.

Pre & Post Event Massage

Pre and post event massage is booked by appointment or is, on occasion, offered at specific events where I have partnership affiliations.

These treatments last between 10 and 20 minutes and are specifically designed to support your horse before and after exercise.

Pre event massage is designed to warm up the tissues of the body in preparation to perform to maximum potential. A further benefit is that it decreases the risk of injury by allowing for a full and proper mechanical motion during exercise. Techniques are adapted to either sooth or stimulate your horse depending on requirements.

Post event massage aims to significantly reduce recovery time. Targeted strokes help to disperse lactic acid and other toxins thereby aiding recovery and reducing stiffness.

Courses & Workshops

I run courses and workshops across the country and overseas. The most popular are the One day Equine Massage for Horse Owners course and the Half day Workshop: Pilates for Horses – Building core strength.

I run a schedule of these courses at partner venues (please see events on my facebook page for the latest scheduled courses) or you can book to host either a course or workshop at your yard for a minimum of 6 attendees. (travel costs may apply)

Please note that attendance on the courses does not qualify you to treat any horse other than your own. The skills you will learn enable you to support your horse between treatments from your qualified therapist

Talks & Demos

I am available for talks and demos at your yard, riding school, Horse and Rider Camp etc…. on a variety of topics including but not limited to

Bodywork to benefit horses working in specific disciplines
Exercises to develop core strength in the horse
Rehabilitative support for chronic conditions

Equissage & Equilibrium Hire

Whilst not a substitute for treatment from qualified professionals, both the equissage and the equilibrium can be useful tools in support of a rehabilitative programme. They can also useful as part of the preparation programme for a big competition or event.
